The images below are new, 15”x11”, acrylic on paper paintings, continuing my explorations of pattern in composition. The idea began while contemplating the over and under of a woven pattern, trying to emulate that look as easily as possible. This eventually morphed into directional squares in grid format, still feeling like a woven but less so. Going forward I will take it back to its core, the feeling of a woven basket or rattan weave. Still striving for little manipulation in regards to brushwork, pick the color up, put it down, move on, unless it improves the composition to work the paint. Watching the pattern appear or evolve through color and application is the most fun.
