Paintings of Pattern, woven technique.

Below see details of new small paintings where I’ve attempted to achieve a woven effect. These works are small 12”x9” paintings on paper. I envision them framed, floating in a white box with an inch of white all around. The freshness of a white frame feels right but being almost monochromatic works, the preference of a colored frame and/or mat would easily work. These small works feel intimate and could be dreamy in a Bedroom. Or grouped Grid Format, a group of nine, twelve or sixteen, quite Bold and Contemporary, installed in a Living Room, Kitchen a more public space.

These three paintings have an overall, random organic edge which does not show with the detail. Going forward I’ve decided to take the pattern to the edge of the paper or treat the edge differently, less random. It would be challenging to simulate a deckle edge! With that said about the edge I do like the floating effect of the first image, Hot Lavender, Pink, Yellow which you can see a suggestion of.

The painting technique employed here with acrylic paint is wet on wet, which when dry will potentially soften the edges, assisting in the illusion of a woven pattern. The weave looks enlarged like an exploded weave or woven pattern. Have I said woven enough?
