Paintings, abstract mark making, Flat File Friday

I recently made a 24”x18” painting which felt new and explosive when finished. It had good color, and both a worked surface and brushstrokes, which seemed a winning combination. An abstract painting in one sense but with brushwork motifs that recall woven pattern so not completely abstract, which is how I seem to roll these days.

Last night I cranked out four 12x9” woven, pattern paintings that were each in their own right pleasing. Four mostly monochromatic paintings which keep things simple and with wet-on-wet technique that I am applying allows for quick movement. It was a nice feeling of accomplishment which I wish I could bottle and sell.

I strive to work with purpose but sometimes my mind may not be on the same page as my process and whatever line of work we are in this may be the case, Right. And with what is happening in the this country today is a distraction for all. The pain caused by racism and violence, is all consuming. But last night I started with purpose and was able to do it.

Today I had an early, good start to the day. My routine is to wake up put on coffee and get down on the floor and stretch for twenty to thirty minutes taking care of the back, core and posture. I am pretty dedicated to this routine for a long time now and I must say what gets me through is knowing that the coffee will be there when I’m done. And my back will be flexible.
