As I have heard from other artists and it is true for me that a lot of time is spent thinking, prepping and planning while execution in theory is the easy part. I have consciously slowed down my painting/drawing process, working with more thought rather than speed. With that said the immediacy can still a big part of my successful work. So it goes back and forth. Making small works on paper allows for both and the ability to see the results quickly, which is helpful.
