Process, Painting, Works on Paper and Canvas, Abstract Landscape Paintings

Edited 11/10/20

In my youth as primarily a Self-Taught artist, painting evolved from painting. I did not think of bodies of work or a career, I sought escape. I wished to be a figurative artist so I painted and drew the landscape, figures/portraits and still life. If there was one constant it was the excitement of seeing something evolve.

In 2009 I started making my first abstract paintings, freely getting the paint to the supports. Gradually my process became more deliberate, I felt the need to make decisions that felt deeper than paint and canvas.

A detail of the diptych shown below. I strive for pure abstraction but the landscape creeps in.

This is a cropped diptych I am currently working on. 24"x40"
