This mixed media oil painting evolved over a year.

Edited 11-12-20 Looking back at this painting I remember it was made with a couple in mind who had purchased before. They wanted something that was mixed media as they already had five of my more traditional works and wanted something different. Who can blame them!? I incorporated metal from tin cans, sand and drawing with the paint and did handstands. They did not go for them and I still have them but someday they will get in front of the right person. I like them…but what am I supposed to say, every artist likes their shit. This group has some special passages.

Some of my paintings happen quickly, some evolve over time, this one took time. Part of a group of eight, this cropped painting is one of my most mixed media paintings to date.

Abstract Landscape, (detail) 2015, oil and mixed media on wood panel, 22"x22"

It was to be one grid piece, originally envisioned as two rows of four horizontally hung panels.  As I worked on them separately it became apparent that they could hang alone. This individual approach made for a more interesting group, I feel.
